About 52.1 percent of total retail sales in China are expected to come from e-commerce transactions in 2021, up from 44.8 percent last year, according to research firm eMarketer. This means that in 2021, China will become the first country where e-commerce sales will surpass brick-and-mortar retail. China's online retail sales rose 10.9 percent from the previous year to 11.7601 billion yuan in 2020, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics. Among them, online retail sales of physical goods reached 9.76 trillion yuan, accounting for 24.9 percent of total retail sales of consumer goods.
